Foundation & Fundamentals / Rescue 1: White water skills - This course is suitable for those new to paddling and who want to develop their whitewater paddling skills on Grade 1 - 2 water. It will look at different paddle strokes, river running, suitable craft, tows and rope work. Rescue 1 - Utilising the skills and knowledge from the previous day you will paddle on moving water (kayaks, packrafts, sit-on-tops) and build on those as well as gain knowledge on the basics of rescuing self and others. Being able to fall out of your boat is the only prerequisite! We'll use the easier rapids above and below the main rapid so it's not too intimidating. This is also good prep before attending a Level 2 Rescue course. You will receive small group instruction from some of Tasmania’s best whitewater paddlers and qualified Paddle Australia instructors. If you would like to receive the Rescue 1 qualification please advise your instructor. You will be required to complete a quiz BEFORE the practical component of the course. There are minimum logbook requirements which can be found in the Rescue 1 guidelines. These must be submitted within 3 months of the practical component of the course.
Participants are required to supply their own paddling equipment and personal gear. Be prepared to get wet and do a lot of swift water swimming (dresss warmly).
Accommodation can be found in Hobart and surrounds.
Please bring water and food for the duration of the course.
The course will commence at 9 am and finish at 4pm daily.
