Course Information

Whitewater Guide/Instructor Training Course Cost: Non-member $550; member $412 ($0 for sponsored participants) 

Friday - Sunday, October 27 - 29 2023 at Browns River and Broken Bridge Derwent River 

Paddle Australia training course for teaching skills and leading trips on moving water up to, and including, Grade 2 for experienced paddlers. 

This training course has been combined with an assessment day within a weekend. 

This course is for experienced paddlers looking at demonstrating correct stroke technique in an instructing situation on moving water, breaking down and teaching stroke technique, whitewater rescue techniques and the requirements for Whitewater Guide/Instructor Assessment.

Participants will be assessed against the Paddle Australia whitewater kayak instructor guidelines which can be downloaded from the Paddle Australia website.

Course Overview:

Friday 27th October 2023 -  4:40pm - dark, flatwater paddle technique session at Browns River, Kingston.

Saturday 28th October 2023 - 9am - 3pm at Broken Bridge Derwent River training day

Sunday 29th October 2023 - 9am - 3pm at Broken Bridge Assessment Day.

A minimum of 4 additional paddlers are required on the Sunday so that participants can teach skills and be assessed in their teaching. It is the responsibility of participants to organise these extra paddlers for the Sunday.

All paperwork needs to be forwarded to Paddle Tasmania within 3 months of completing the course.

There is an opportunity for participants to be sponsored in undertaking this training/assessment weekend. Paddle TAS will agree to cover the course of the training and assessment in return for a commitment to work Paddle Tasmania on events and courses. For those participants wishing to be sponsored please submit an email to education.tas@paddle.org.au 



Please ensure you have been in contact with Paddle Tasmania prior to registering for this Course to ensure you have the appropriate skills and information to take part.
There will be a $170.00 fee to register your qualification with Paddle Australia for 3 years. You will only be invoiced for your PA registration once all requirements for the qualification have been completed and submitted to Paddle Australia.

The closing date for registrations has passed. Please contact Paddle Tasmania to determine if they provide late registrations for this Course.
