Course: This course is aimed at anyone who uses a paddle on moving rnwater (kayaks, packrafts, sit-on-tops) and wants to know the basics rnabout rescuing themselves and others. Being able to fall out of your rnboat is the only prerequisite! We'll use the easier rapids above and rnbelow the main rapid so it's not too intimidating. This is also good rnprep before attending a Level 2 Rescue course. This course is suitable for anyone who kayaks, packrafts or uses sit-on-tops. Venue: Meet 8.45am, Broken Bridge on the Derwent River, River Left carpark (Northern side). 50' drive from Hobart. Finish 4pm. Directions: rn From the northern side of the bridge at New Norfolk head west along thern Lyell Hwy for 10.7 km, (8mins) till you spot a dirt turnoff just beforern a white cottage on a righthand bend. Ring Vicky if you need a lift or want to carpool from Hobart area. Topics include: basic rescue gear, swimming and moving about in water without a boat, gear and swimmer retrieval, easy throwbagging, communication and teamwork., ripping rescue yarns.
Bring lunch, drinking water and energy food. You'llrn be in the water 50% of the time so come dressed for the water rntemperature (sturdy footwear, helmet, pfd, full wetsuit + thermals + cagrn or drysuit).
